Wrestling monarchy

When you think of society controlling people, I would think of World War II with Hitler and how he controlled all of Germany with power and an Iron hand. He controlled them enough to kill 11 million people. You could also think of monarchies as being controlling societies they would control every movement of what you did. Anywhere from where you went to where you worked or even where you lived. They are made up of a ruling class that controls people completely. In today’s society, I don’t think people are as controlled today as they were in the past. However, I feel there are some individuals and groups that still try to control society for their own gains.

I think that society controls people in many different ways. Laws are one way.  Laws keep you from doing things that society finds unfit or as a danger. The government is controlling the U.S. borders more and allowing fewer people into our country.  Television is also a way our population is being controlled. You always see thin people on television and you wish you were like them. This makes you think that you should look like that.  Weight gain can be controlling too because if you are on the heavy side people look at you in a negative way. There is so much stuff out there to help you lose weight and look the way that society thinks you should look like. This is another way society controls you. The way you act is another way. You have to be yourself but still be within the norms of society.  People with tattoos all over their bodies and body piercings are looked down upon and are also considered outside the norms of society.

I would say that my high school wrestling team was controlling. I mean the seniors ran the team which is how it is in most schools but the seniors really ran the team. Our coach was extremely busy so any decision that had to be made went to the seniors for a vote. I would say seniors controlled the freshman by making them do everything. We would make them get the water and mop the mats every day and get us our duffle bags and carry them around. We would also make them re rack the weights after we finished lifting. The weight area would always be a big mess with weights all over the room. If you’re a senior, you also picked where on the wrestling mats you wanted to wrestle. The freshman would end up getting stuck in the corners of the mats. Sometimes, there would just not be enough room for them. They would have to wait until the varsity team finished practicing before  they had an opportunity to get on the mats.

I would say wrestling is controlling in itself.  You have to make sure you make weight. This means you have to watch what you eat and make sure you lose enough weight every week. This can be extremely difficult. I had to cut 20 pounds within one week before a match. This was not an isolated incident.  This situation could go on for several months in a row. I was not the only wrestler that had to endure this, many members of the team could tell similar stories.  I did it to myself I would go home after matches on Saturday nights and just eat like there was no tomorrow. I would get a pizza, ice cream, chicken and rice and just pig out until Monday.  Then I had to lose the weight all over again.   That is very difficult. I would put my food on a scale and made sure I would weigh under 103 every time I ate. My meals through the week would be no breakfast and maybe no lunch if I was close to weight.  If I could have lunch, it would be a small bagel. An example dinner meal would be eggs and the next night I would have chicken with an 8 ounce glass of water.   After a while it’s hard but you feel like you have to keep going because that is your job on the team. The wrestling team controls people by picking your weight class and staying there. So they control what weight class you’re in. I think what most teams do with the freshman getting hazed is ok. I would say it’s kind of like a frat pledge get hazed then they are your brothers for life. So I’m ok with getting hazed on the team because I know some day I would be doing the hazing. I think it makes you better for the experience and it definitely brings you closer with your team mates or brothers.

The unwritting rulers of wrestling team

  • Seniors pick where they want to wrestle on the wrestling mats
  • Seniors pick what weight class they want to wrestle in
  • Senior and juniors are first on the scales to check there weight
  • Freshman mop the mats
  • Freshman get the water for every practice and anytime upperclassman want it
  • Freshman lockers are put in the back Conner of the locker room
  • Freshman sit at the back of the bus or where ever the seniors want them to sit
  • The freshman carry all the seniors wrestling bag to the bus
  • Seniors pick the singlet’s for each match or tournament
  • Seniors pick the practices times for JV and Varsity and seniors are first in the shower.

American X

The movie that I watched lead to many different emotions throughout the movie. Some of the emotions that came out were sadness, anger, wanting to help out. The sadness  came out a couple of times through out the movie when Derek killed those kids for trying to break into his car. They were trying to get him back for taking the court from them in basketball. Derek was just so brainwashed by Cameron that he did not know what was right and what was wrong. Some anger came out when I would hear the stupid stuff that came out of all the  mouth of all the neo-Nazi members it was just stupid stuff. He I was also very sad when Danny was gunned down in the bath room. I think that he could have had a very bright future but with what he had been in he was done for I think. I just didn’t like to see the teacher tried to help so much with both the brothers and nothing just they tried to push him away. They were pushed from both sides the neo-nazi said was stronger in there life till Derek went to jail and saw the really world.

Keeping people out

The people that were on athletic teams kept people out of there group second to the preps at my school. They would keep you from sitting at their tables at lunch. They would also keep other groups or other people out of there groups in school and out for the most part. I was on the wrestling team and during wrestling season the only people you hung out with were members of the wrestling team. That’s just how it was. The football team was the same way. At lunch you would have all the wrestlers sitting at one table with their girl friends and that’s it. If you tried to sit down at the table you were told to get away. As wrong as that was we did not eat much at lunch and we did not want to see a bunch of food in are face’s because we knew we could not eat it. Most the time we hung out all the time to keep are each other on weight and make sure are team mates did not go over in weight. If they did all us would all end up paying for it in the long run.

The preps were the same way but more ass holes about the groups at my school. They were the really ass holes they made fun of you and would throw food at some people. The reason they did that was because they thought it was funny to make fun of people because it made them look cool. Like most people say they made fun of people to make them self’s fell better about them self’s. There is no way making fun of people makes you look cool in any way. You would look like you are afraid of something if you make fun of people. What do those people have that you want that you feel like you need to make fun of them for. What is the reason they fell they need to make fun of  the people that are not in the group there is no reason. That’s how people are in or out of the box at my high school.

city vs country life

When I think of the city compared to the country there are lot of things different. While if you’re in the city or the suburbs your house or apartment are really close not much space in between them. If you life in the country you could have hundreds of acres of land you could do some much stuff with that you could paint ball have a dirt bike track you could do so much with land. If you lived in the country you may have to drive 20 to 30mins to get to a grocery store. While if you lived in the city you could walk to it or drive to it with in 10mins. You might have 500 hundred people who go to your school if you lived in the country. But living in the city you might have around 2000 students in your school. With the way to get your heat you get it through natural gas if you lived in the city. If you live in the country you might have that big propane tank that sits in the back of your yard.

If you live in the country during the winter it might be couple of days before you get your road plowed but if you live in the city it would get plowed the same day the snow fell. If the power goes out it takes at least a few days to get your power back in the country. If you live in the city it would be the same day or the ever next day you would get your power back. The kind of people that I think live in the country that I live  are more down to earth. They save more of what they have they just do more to live of the earth. That’s what I think of differences between the country and the city.

narrative

My cousin who is 22 and in the marines is going off to war within a few weeks and he will be gone for a year. So it has been really hard on his girlfriend and mom and dad knowing that he will be gone for a year and will not be home for the holidays. So Brian is shipping out and all is friends and family are there watching as he gets on the bus and rides onto base then within a few days he will fly out for their base in Germany for a few weeks then off to Afghanistan to sever his country. He will not be in the green zone he will be in the hot zone. He is in the special intelligence so nobody knows what he does over there he is out of reach for a few days then he just shows back up again. People have asked him if he could describe it but he said he won’t he said there is no way to describe it. Also I have noticed that he is more jumping around crowds of people he is fine when it’s just the family but out in public he does not like it he is always looking around he also use to smile a lot more than he does not he always looks pissed off now these days.  He did describe the food and he said it was shit so that really sucks for all those American’s fighting for our country and getting really shit food to go along with war.

This is his second tour of duty and so during his first tour of duty he called home about a week before and said he was coming home. We were so happy to hear that he was coming home. We all through him a big welcome home party to say thank you and glad you came home save. That is what we are saying to him again come home safe and we are also talking about what we will do when he gets back from war in a year. Last time when he came home me and him went around the country in the summer just driving place and stopping where every where we wanted to stop. That’s what I hope happens this time when he comes home  next year that we can take a trip again to where ever he wants. I want to go to the west coast this time because we stayed on the east coast last time so that would be nice to go over there I have only been to the west coast once I would love to go back with my cousin Brian. So I just hope that when he comes home again that we can enjoy each other and he can love life.

supervillan

If I could be a superhero or a supervillan I would be a supervillan. I would be a supervillan to get back at all the people who were ass to me while I was in school. Being short for some reason people think they can pick on you. I have no clue why but people are just like that. So I think my power would be to control of people. I would also be seven feet tall and lots of muscle.I would use my power of controlling people to make them look like ass like they did to me. I would make them do the stupidest things in front of a lot of people.

I think that my second power would be I could breath under water that would be so cool. Having the power to breath under water you could leave everything that is in the world and just sit down there and chill. You could also escape people that are trying to get you by just diving into the water.   You could walk the whole ocean floor to and see whats all down there. You could find some really cool stuff to keep.

I think the way I would look would be normal. I’m not going to be all dressed up in a supervillan getup. I don’t want to bring bad to most people just the ones that messed with me and thought they were to good to be messed with. You have those guys in high school that think mainly they run the school but what they don’t know or do and don’t care every one thinks there ass. I also don’t want to bring attention to myself I want to be able to blend in with the crowed So I can get way when I need to.

someone esle expectations

Some times peoples expectations are too much or just what you need. For me my dad had high expectations for me to do good in wrestling. He was runner-up his senior year in prep school in PA. Then in college he did very well to. He also placed in states while he was in college. So he expected me to do good. So from the age of 5 on I was on some wrestling team or another. I wanted to wrestle so it was fine. But in 10th grade I was thinking about quitting the wrestling team but with my dad’s expectation and a kick in the ass from him I stayed on the team and was glad I did. My senior year I almost went to states but blow my knee out. I ended up having three knee surgery’s but its all good because I was one match from States. That means I would have been top 16 in the state. With his high expectation and not letting me quit  showed me that when things get hard for you or your coach is pushing you to get better don’t quit just keep going and some good will come out of it. Some times people have expectations that are to high most people think. It might just be you are not willing to push that hard to get there is what I think. Some time there are expectations that are to high, but most of the time its you don’t want it or your not willing to work for it.

Gattaca

In the movie Gattaca there is a man named Vincent and he is on of the normal adults he was not made like all the other kids are in the movie. His brother Antonio was made to be the best at everything and to have no health problems. I really fell for Vincent I know what it’s like to want something so bad but can’t have it. He wanted to go into space but couldn’t because he’s not a prefect adult. I like how he found a way to get what he wanted and has not stooped trying to go into space. I wanted to go to the state championship in wrestling but couldn’t because I blow out my knee. My thought so far are I hope we never get to where they have society in this movie it is taken way to far. What kind of society is it when you can make everything perfect like they do in the movie. No one stands out they all look the same.

In the society we live in there are problems there are different kinds of people. That’s what live is all about change and different kinds of people and culture. I know I would not like it if everyone was the same as everyone else . If you didn’t have to work for anything to get better that would be no fun. Live is all about having to work hard at what you want to succeed at it . They test you to get in the building through your blood I also hope we never come to that. In a way this movie takes the future way to far.
